Massachusetts Group Disability Insurance - News, Developments and Commentary
Group Disability -- both Long Term Disability plans and Short Term Disability plans are crucial, if under-appreciated, programs for your employees. The fact is, an employee in his 30's is THREE TIMES more likely to be disabled for more than 90 days before turning age 65 than he is to die before 65.
What's more, (again under-appreciated) the ability to earn a living is the single most valuable asset your employee possesses. Without that ability, all her other assets will disappear sooner rather than later.
Disability, unlike health & dental (where a procedure is either medically necessary or not, cosmetic or not), disability is amorphous. What's disabling for your shipping clerk isn't disabling for your accounts payable manager. Your sales reps can be disabled by things that have no impact on the CFO. Yet they're all covered by the same contracts.
So in this page we'll post, by date with most recent postings at the top, items about disability plans. How to design them to keep costs down. How to look for traps in the language of the contract. How to avoid pitfalls in coverage. How to get the most bang for your disability buck.
